Most of the time, I write the Daily Dose the night before it goes out.
And most of the time I don’t go into with a plan. I just peruse my photos and look for one that speaks to me in that moment.
Sometimes I see one and think, “Oh, I have some cool factoids to share about that one.” And there I go.
Other times, I have a feeling somewhere deep down inside that I’m trying to bring out. When I come to the right photo that strikes the chord of that feeling, I just let the words flow.
And that’s what happened tonight. This lone saguaro, standing tall amidst a brewing storm, in a black and white world, it spoke to me.
If you’re like me, it’s a metaphor what it feels like to live in our world at this moment. Hatred, racism, and corruption define these times, and yet we have to go about our lives.
We have bills to pay and families to support and people that count on us.
And we also have stand up in the face of tyranny and greed and hate.
For kindness. For equality. For unity. For the future of our planet. For our children, and our children’s children, who will inherit it from us. And for all of us who whole-heartedly care about every other living thing.
We all have to be that saguaro. It ain’t easy, no way in hell is it easy. But we have to stand tall.
And maybe this is where the metaphor breaks down, but I’m here for each and every one of you as we must stand together.
Let’s be a forest of saguaros supporting each other so we can take care of our business and stand up what is right.
Much love to all of you. And thanks for being here for the Daily Dose.
