It’s been a heavy week, so let’s keep it light today with a Thursday throwback to August 2010.
I was a broke college kid back then. My camera was an entry-level Canon with a crappy kit lens that I was told wasn’t worth using. Well, somehow I coaxed a few decent images out of it.
Like on this evening when I went out to Grand Canyon’s Navajo Point.
Monsoon clouds ripped across the Plateau Country. Golden light illuminated the Palisades of the Desert. The Echo Cliffs glowed crimson in the distance. The cool waters of the Colorado River glimmered gracefully in the canyon bottom.
I couldn’t ask for a more pleasing scene. And despite my apparently crummy camera, from these conditions I created a photo that is one of my favorites to this day.
By the way, I talk trash about the camera in jest — those of humble wisdom know that a great photograph can be made from any camera. Just gotta shoot from the heart. And surely you can feel my love of the Grand Canyon through this image.
I said I’d keep it light, so let’s leave it at that. Have a great Thursday, everyone.
