Keeping it light today with a little Waterfall Wednesday action.
Okay, I’m taking liberties with location here as Yellowstone isn’t quite in the Southwest, but hey, at least I’m not trying to pass off one from New England, ha.
This is from July 2017, and it seems like a lifetime ago. We only spent 36 hours there, and this roadside waterfall — Gibbon Falls — spoke to me.
I remain proud of this composition, framing the falls with pine trees and offering the impression of peeking through the branches to see the 84-foot cascade.
When I returned to Arizona later that summer and showed my dad this photo, I jokingly told him the waterfall was named after ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons.
He said, “Really?” Believing me for half a second. I think of that every time I look at this photo.
Okay, you’re wondering where the name actually came from? It’s named after U.S. Army Colonel John Gibbon, a civil war veteran who served in the 1872 Hayden Geological Survey of Yellowstone.
Well, that’s it for today’s Daily Dose. Happy Waterfall Wednesday, everyone.
