Peering through the out-stretched arms of pinyons and junipers, I hoped to make a not-so-typical image of this vantage of a sun-bathed Cathedral Rock.

Sometimes I end up at popular locations where tons and tons of photos have been taken.

And while I try to not care what other people have done, I also try to find ways of photographing a scene that maybe no one else has found yet.

That’s what I was going for here and in the end, it challenged me, and I’m happy with the result. A much different photo than what I might have made five years ago, or even one year ago.

Is it ever not surprising to learn the ways in which our perspectives change over time?
